Doris Middleton Award

Joanne and Lisa at the 2012 annual meeting.

September 20, 2013

This year’s Doris Middleton Award goes to learner Lisa Stokman.  Lisa joined the math group in 2010. Her goal was to improve her numeracy skills to live independently.  Lisa excelled in group and would help others with their work.  Last year Lisa requested a tutor to help her with her reading and writing skills.  With her tutor, Mirella, Lisa was able to reach her short term goals and complete three milestone tasks.  As well as coming to Action Read each week, Lisa volunteers with the Red Cross, St. Joseph, and the Alzheimer Society.

Lisa’s passion for learning and volunteering in the community is exemplary.  With her positive attitude, kind personality and great ability to focus, we are sure that Lisa will continue to meet any goal she sets for herself.
