Food Literacy Project

Using the Canada Food Guide to meal plan.

December 4, 2014

The Action Read Food Literacy Project is now complete.  Through the project we were able to increase understanding of four important food topics: sustainability, health and nutrition, food preparation and community. The project paid special attention to the literacy and dietary needs and the budget parameters of low income adults. It included a weekly learning group with hands-on learning about specific food and nutrition themes. Through the project we were able to visit St. Lawrence Market in Toronto and visit an installation art project called ‘Remediate’ which was designed to create habitat for honey bees and other pollinators. We also worked with a diabetes educator and nutritionist, and offered hands-on cooking classes.  All-in-all a very exciting project and opportunity for Action Read.  Thank you Guelph Community Foundation for your tremendous support of the project!
