Come Celebrate Community, Poetry and Literacy at Action Read’s Poetry and Music Event

Guelph, ON, Canada. March 7 2014 — Action Read is pleased to announce its 11th annual ‘For the Love of Words’ poetry and music fundraiser on Saturday March 29th at 7:30 pm at the Guelph Youth Music Centre, 75 Cardigan St.

Poet John Terpstra called this event “…simply great.  You must be doing some awfully good work in Guelph to attract such a warm, loyal and involved audience.  I was honoured to participate.”   2014 features another fantastic line-up of spoken word performers and musicians. CBC producer and personality Vish Khanna lends his talents as emcee. Luminaries from the world of Canadian poetry include Bruce Meyer, Laura Lush and James Clarke, as well as Guelph Spoken Word headliners Beth Anne Ellipsis and Fannon Holland.  Action Read is also delighted to present the music of singer-songwriter extraordinaire Katherine Wheatley.

For over 25 years, Action Read has worked to improve the basic literacy and numeracy skills of hundreds of people in Guelph.  Action Read executive director Mira Clarke states that “Many people in Guelph are passionate about poetry – it plays a big role in their lives. A fundraiser that celebrates and inspires through the art of language and communication is a perfect fit for the work we do.” She adds that the event is a great way to kick off  National Poetry Month in April, while raising funds for a critically important cause.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the Bookshelf, Action Read and at the door. Refreshments and a silent auction made possible by the dedicated support of numerous local volunteers and businesses will also be available. All proceeds go directly to Action Read’s literacy and numeracy programs.

Action Read would like to thank the 2014 event sponsors who are generously helping to support individuals in our community through this event. These include Write Design and the Bookshelf.
