Come Celebrate Community, Poetry and Literacy at Action Read’s Poetry and Music Event!

Guelph, ON, Canada. March 23 2013 — Action Read is pleased to announce its 10th annual ‘For the Love of Words’ poetry and musical fundraiser on Saturday April 6th at 7:30 pm at the Boathouse,116 Gordon St. in Guelph.

Audiences have called this event ‘magical’, ‘direct and intimate’, and ‘a testament to what Action Read is all about’.  2013 features another fantastic line-up of spoken word performers and musicians. Dynamic CBC Canada Live host and musician Andrew Craig lends his talents as emcee. The diverse cross-section of Canadian poets includes Rob Winger, Luke Hill, Sheila Stewart, Brian Henderson and Livingston, who will demonstrate in unique ways the power of the written word.  Action Read is also delighted to present the music of songwriter Ian Reid, as well as 2013 CBC Searchlight Finalist Ambre McLean! These accomplished musicians bring an engaging and rootsy energy to the evening.

For over 25 years, Action Read has worked to improve the basic literacy and numeracy skills of hundreds of people in Guelph.  Action Read executive director Mira Clarke states that “Many people in Guelph are passionate about poetry – it plays a big role in their lives. A fundraiser that celebrates and inspires through the art of language and communication is a perfect fit for the work we do.” She adds that the event is a great way to celebrate National Poetry Month, while raising funds for a critically important cause.

Tickets are only $15 and are available at the Bookshelf, Action Read and at the door. Refreshments and a silent auction made possible by the dedicated support of numerous local businesses will also be available. All proceeds go directly to Action Read’s literacy and numeracy programs.

Action Read would like to thank the 2013 event sponsors who are generously helping to support individuals in our community through this event. These include The Guelph and District Labour Council; Write Design and the Boathouse.
